LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International (PMI) on Thursday signalled a slower than anticipated U.S.
roll out of its IQOS heated tobacco device, a choice analysts said was positive for its competitors in the short term.

The New York-listed Marlboro maker also said it aims for more
than two thirds of its net revenues to come from «smoke-free» products by
2030, up from 50% in 2025, as it tries to
transform its image from a cigarette purveyor to a driver of the shift to healthier
alternatives.

Investors have been closely watching IQOS’ entry into the
U.S., the world’s largest market for nicotine products, and had been expecting it from May 2024 next year.
Reuters reported on Wednesday that PMI is hiring lobbyists across a host of key U.S.

states ahead of the launch.

Chief Executive Jacek Olczak said IQOS would launch in four cities in two unnamed U.S.
states from 2024, but a national launch would only come after PMI receives approval to sell the latest version, known as IQOS
ILUMA.

The company was planning to apply for approval in October and expected it from 2025, he continued.

«We need to warm up the tyres,» he said of the initial launch,
which would help PMI fine tune its approach.

A national roll-out of ILUMA would follow but in phases,
he continued, adding launching in 10 states in the first
year would make sense.

Meaningful traction for PMI’s heated tobacco products in the U.S.
«now looks delayed until ILUMA,» Owen Bennett, equity analyst at Jefferies,
said in a note, adding this was a positive
for PMI’s rivals.

Olczak also signalled that PMI’s push into non-nicotine products was no longer
a priority. It recently scrapped an ambition for $1 billion in net
revenues to come from sales of such products by 2025.

Instead, PMI will focus its resources on IQOS and nicotine pouch brand ZYN, Olczak said,
adding it had been too optimistic around acceptance of big tobacco companies operating outside of nicotine.

PMI also announced updated medium-term targets including for revenue and earnings per share,
and ambitious volume targets for IQOS and ZYN.

ZYN and other oral nicotine products in the U.S. would
help drive an expected $2 billion in revenues there in 2024,

A billionaire couple have won the right to
remove a single tree from the driveway of their lavish $20million mansion after being blocked by their local council. 

Paul Holmes a Court, the son of Australia’s first billionaire Robert Holmes a Court, and his wife Zara had
been at loggerheads with their local council over a
request to remove a single peppermint tree growing in the middle
of their driveway.

The couple bought the four-bedroom mansion in the affluent, tree-lined suburb overlooking Perth’s Freshwater Bay
for $20.1million in August.

They wanted to remove the tree but the Shire of Peppermint Grove refused the request on the grounds the tree was not dead or deceased. 

‘We are very lucky to live here, but I have to say that the tree placement is unusual,’ Ms Holmes a
Court previously told a council meeting. 

‘I’m quite a reasonable and rational person, but a tree in the middle
of the driveway makes it quite tricky to reverse out.’

The couple enjoyed a breakthrough at a council meeting last week after an alternative motion was unanimously
passed that allowed the tree to be removed on the condition they paid a $2,500 bond before any work was done on the driveway.

They will also need to plant two replacement trees on their property.

Ms Holmes a Court previously claimed the tree’s odd placement also made it difficult to
spot cars turning the corner at a nearby intersection with Bay View
Terrace.

After the motion to remove the tree was passed at the meeting, councillor Douglas Jackson said
it was a ‘good outcome’.

‘I think it meets both the owners’ wants, or expectation, but also matches the council’s needs at the same time by ensuring that there is tree cover on the verge of that property,
‘ he said.

Peppermint Grove is hoping to implement a policy that would even make it an offence to damage or remove any mature trees on private
property without council approval.

Last month, WA Planning Minister John Carey said he hoped the Shire of Peppermint Grove would ‘take a common sense approach’ to the issue.

‘This is part of the challenge that we do have with local government.
I’ve always been on the record that we need local governments to take a common sense approach to issues,’ Mr Carey told the West Australian. 

‘And I understand people are passionate about trees. But ultimately, we do need local governments
to assess the situation and find pragmatic outcomes.’

According to the online listing for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion – which is built on a corner block along
the banks of the Swan River – the sprawling Federation-style property
was built in around 1904.

Someone on X, formerly Twitter, posted the moment online last week and it went viral, gaining
more then 437,000 views in a matter of days – and many users took their initial silence as proof that they ‘didn’t
like’ the film.

The internet has been flooded with negative posts about the flick ever since it premiered,
with one user branding it as a ‘bore’ and another
claiming it had ‘no plot.’

Many social media users have also slammed the movie’s final
scene, which saw main character Arthur Fleck (portrayed by Joaquin) brutally stabbed to death by a fellow inmate.

This meant that the man that audiences had been watching over the
course of the two movies was never the Joker at all, but in fact, the infamous villain from
the Batman series was really just the random inmate who killed Arthur in the last moments of the film.

The shocking twist left numerous viewers unsatisfied, and they took
to social media to share their frustration.

While chatting with Good Morning Britain last week, the two stars were asked if the movie turned out to be ‘everything they expected’ 

Immediately, they both turned to look at one another and smiled. For a few seconds, the two stars

The Todd Phillips-directed musical serves as a follow-up to the 2019 box office hit, which was simply titled Joker. 

The first film grossed over $1 billion and at the time was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.

It received 11 Oscar nominations – two of which it won. 

The sequel, however, has already been much less successful.
It had a lackluster $40 million debut at the box office in its
first weekend, and has a low rating of 33 percent and 31 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Undoing much of the goodwill from its predecessor, the sequel convolutes what
could have been a unique character study into a bloated encore that goes out
with a whimper,’ reads one review. 

Another critic wrote, ‘This movie is a disjointed mess and
a waste of time. It’s just tired, not particularly interesting,
but it does look good from a production design standpoint.’

Joaquin just confirmed Rooney (born Patricia) was his ‘wife’ during an episode of Sam
Fragaso’s podcast Talk Easy, last month.

Mara welcomed their second child in June, and she dressed her post-baby body gorgeous sheer
gown.

Phoenix (born Bottom) and the two-time Oscar nominee are also parents
of four-year-old son River Mara Phoenix named after Joaquin’s
big brother who died, age 23, from an overdose of morphine and cocaine on Halloween 1993.

‘I love it. I love it so much. I think it’s the best thing in the world,’ Rooney gushed of
motherhood on the LaunchLeft Podcast last year.

‘It doesn’t feel like a two-actor house because I didn’t work for the first
three and a half years we were together. 

Basically since we’ve been together, I only worked one or two times and one was really small and short.
It feels like a creative household, we’re constantly talking about creative things.’

The cost for one of London’s most pricey apartments will begin at £35million – with 600 megarich customers already
securing a spot on the waiting list.

Pricing details of billionaire John Caudwell’s spectacular 1
Mayfair development have now been revealed and only those with the deepest pockets can hope to afford one of the lavish pads.

The cheapest apartment on offer is expected to be an eye-watering £35million – around 70 times the average cost of
a house in the capital.

Due to complete in Spring 2026 the scheme will easily surpass London’s previous record breaker, the £1.3billion One
Hyde Park development in Knightsbridge.

Caudwell told The Standard that there are already more than 600 prospective buyers on a waiting list of billionaires and centi-millionaires who have
expressed an interest in making a purchase at the scheme.

There will be just 24 ‘principal residences’ in the property including lateral apartments, penthouses and townhouses
with up to five bedrooms, and five more smaller ‘pieds-à-terre’ apartments.

The size of the homes has not yet been disclosed but the developers
say even the most modest property will start with a
guide price exceeded by only a handful of mansions
in London’s richest neighbourhoods. 

The average price of all 29 units – which cover 300,000 sq ft – will
be close to £70million.

The entry level price of £35million is 70 times the average
London property value of around £500,000, and 130 times the national average price of £268,000 revealed
in today’s Nationwide house price survey for November.

The development’s basement is being dug down to 90ft below ground level
to make room for a health spa with a 20 metre swimming pool as well as a car park.

The designs were led by New York based architect Robert
Stern and practice RAMSA, with contractors, Mace, the construction managers and PJ Carey responsible for the
creation of the basement substructure and superstructure.

Due to complete in Spring 2026 after a six years build the scheme
will easily surpass London’s previous record breaker,
the £1.3billion One Hyde Park development in Knightsbridge.

Caudwell – who founded the mobile phones retailers Phones 4u – attended the topping out of
1 Mayfair alongside senior members of the construction team.

The ceremony was marked by the final steel rafter, one of 79 at roof
level, being put into place on the top of the nine-storey main apartment building.

No expense has been spared on the building’s interior and it
will feature a ceiling with hand-painted frescos based on Michelangelo’s
Map of the Heavens in the Vatican, a reception room with
a double height ceiling and 18ft high French windows overlooking the
garden.

There will also be a Palace of Versailles Hall of Mirrors-style crystal
callery, created from over 1,264 hand-set pieces of
cut glass, a library and a garden gallery, with seating areas opening directly onto the central courtyard garden.
